The Freehand Christmas Collection

 Hello all!

Well here I am, 5 months after my last blogpost. Life has been busy, but you don't want to hear excuses. Let's get to the sewing!

I thought I'd kick off the season with a collection of Christmas dresses I have sewed without patterns. I hope you enjoy!

Christmas Dress 2023:

I still love this dress. It feels elegant and formal - perfect for a Christmas party!
I wrote a semi-tutorial for it, which you can view here.

Another favorite! I love the pattern on this fabric, as well as the lace-up feature on the back of the dress :)

I most likely sewed this for Christmas 2022; but it was blogged in a Valentine's post, so I will not put a definite date on it. It still makes a fabulous holiday dress.

And now, for a dress you haven't seen before!

This red-check dress doubles for Autumn and the Christmas season. The bodice has quite a bit of shaping that was finicky to get right, but the skirt is a-line.
I usually wear it with a belt.

Its main feature is a fold-back collar which I embellished with lace and a button.

The sleeves are shaped by a hook-and-eye closure, as seen above. I can unhook this if I want to roll up my sleeves.

I installed an invisible zipper in the back.

What should follow all these past sewing projects is my 2025 Christmas dress. But alas! It has yet to be sewn. I will give you a hint though:
This year, it's going to be deep green.
I think I can take a break from red for a year or two :)
I've scheduled the start date for this project, and look forward to sewing it up!
Keep an eye out for a post about it in the next few weeks!

Thank you for reading. I do hope you come back soon.

Lillian
